About Szechuan Restaurant

Located at 1994 Cliff Dr, Santa Barbara, CA 93109, Szechuan Restaurant operates as a szechuan serving Santa Barbara in California. This page gathers the practical details people usually look for before visiting: where it is, how to reach it, when it opens and how customers rate it. Besides its main category, the business also describes itself as chinese restaurant, delivery restaurant, taiwanese restaurant, so it may cover more than the name suggests.

In cities with a Chinatown, weekend mornings bring dim sum carts or order sheets, and lines form early at the most popular spots in Santa Barbara; walk-ins are standard and reservations are uncommon outside large banquet restaurants. Regional labels matter: Cantonese, Sichuan, Hunan, Shanghainese and Taiwanese kitchens cook very differently, so a restaurant's stated region is a better guide to the food than the word "Chinese" alone. Some smaller restaurants in California are BYOB with no corkage fee; call ahead to confirm. A tip of 15-20% is customary for table service but not expected at counter-order takeout. Spice level, MSG and allergen questions are normal to ask before ordering, and most kitchens are happy to leave an ingredient out or tone down the heat if you mention it when ordering rather than after the food arrives.

The business lists hours on 7 days of the week. On most of those days it is open 11:45 am–2:30 pm. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. The listed phone number is (805) 564-7651. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone. More information is available on its website, szechuanrestaurantsb.com.

Customers rate it 4.3 out of 5 on Google across 192 reviews, placing it among the better-regarded szechuan & hunan in Santa Barbara.

Santa Barbara is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. US addresses list the street number and name, then the city, state abbreviation and ZIP code, and Santa Barbara follows the same pattern; a suite or apartment number such as Ste 200 refers to a unit inside the building. The map link on this page shows the exact spot.

You really can’t beat the quality for the price. Everything we ordered was fresh, full of flavor, and the portions were generous. Service was friendly and the food came out fast. Anna was especially wonderful—she was attentive, welcoming, and recommended some excellent dishes that turned out to be our favorites. Definitely one of the best spots for authentic Chinese food in Santa Barbara.

Highly recommended! As someone who grew up eating authentic Chinese food, I can confidently say these Spicy Wontons are the real deal. The portion was generous with 12 wontons, each filled with fresh, flavorful meat. The chili oil had great depth of flavor, and the fresh garlic really elevated the dish, making it incredibly appetizing and hard to stop eating. What impressed me most was how authentic the flavors tasted—just like the spicy wontons you would find in China. The balance of spice, garlic, and savory filling was spot on. On top of that, the service was excellent: friendly, attentive, and welcoming. If you’re looking for authentic Chinese-style spicy wontons, this place is definitely worth a visit.

I ordered the Mandarin Crispy Chicken, and it was absolutely delicious! The chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside while staying tender and juicy on the inside. The sauce had a great balance of sweet, tangy, and mildly spicy flavors without being overpowering. Paired with a bowl of plain fried rice, the combination was simple yet incredibly satisfying. The rice complemented the chicken perfectly and allowed the flavors of the dish to shine. Overall, a fantastic meal with great flavor and texture. I will definitely be coming back again! Highly recommended.

I ordered the Yangzhou Fried Rice and Spicy Chicken (La zi Chicken). Both dishes were excellent and very authentic. The Yangzhou fried rice was flavorful and loaded with shrimp, egg, and bbq pork. The Lazi Chicken was the highlight of the meal—crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and packed with spicy, numbing flavor. There was a generous amount of chicken, not just dried peppers like some places serve. The portion was huge and perfect for sharing. Definitely one of the better authentic Chinese dishes I’ve had. Highly recommend!
